Job Summary: The Heavy Equipment Operator will perform highly complex and difficult construction and maintenance activities by operating a variety of heavy equipment. The project that the Heavy Equipment Operator will be working on consists of replacing 2 parallel bridges along Rt. 360 through Amelia County, VA. Notable work items include, but are not limited to, roadway detour installation, demo of steel and concrete structures, installation of temporary and permanent sheet piling, MSE wall installation and backfill, steel erection, and concrete placement. Work is scheduled to start in the Fall of 2020 with contract completion scheduled for June of 2022. Supervisory Responsibilities: May direct and supervise the work of other laborers and equipment operators as necessary to aid in safe and efficient completion of tasks requiring heavy equipment use. Duties/Responsibilities: Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as a Caterpillar 330 Excavator, Caterpillar D6 Dozer for both rough and finish grade or similar. Operates machinery to excavate, move, and grade earth, erect structural and reinforcing steel, and pour concrete or other hard surface paving materials. Conducts routine inspections prior to operating equipment. Adjusts hand-wheels and depresses pedals to drive machines and control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms. Controls air and water output of compressors and pumps. Controls attachments such repairs and maintains equipment. Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines, and policies. Environmental Health and Safety Internship Summary This position is designed to be both educational and practical.  In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills acquired in school and apply them in a manufacturing environment under the direct supervision of the EH&S Manager and EH&S Coordinator. Collaborates with colleagues, clients, and other invested individuals to review and coordinate findings. Performs minor adjustments on surveying instruments to maintain accuracy. Maintains knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local surveying laws; rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and best practices relative to land surveying. Performs other related duties as assigned associated with the survey role.  Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent mathematical skills to conduct land survey analysis. Thorough understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of land surveying. Proficient with computerized mapping technologies and surveying instruments, and the computer applications and software used to process field data. (i.e. Trimble Access, S6 Robotic Total Station, and AutoCAD Civil 3D). Ability to work independently. Clean driving record.
