Area Safety Representative - Bluestone Dam

Job Summary: The Area Safety Representative will foster and maintain a proactive approach to safety and will promote an employee-centered safety work culture. He/she will report directly to the corporate safety director.  This position is located in Hinton, West Virginia, but may require filling in on other jobsites on occasion. The Area Safety Representative, as a minimum, must have completed the 30 hour OSHA Construction safety class or its equivalent.  In addition, this position is required to have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Safety from an accredited program, minimum of five (5) years of construction safety experience and be a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).  This is an Army Corp of Engineers Job.  The Site Safety Representative will support and assist the field workforce.  They will perform safety training, continually evaluate jobsite for hazards and implement corrective measures.  They will also purchase and maintain safety equipment necessary for the jobsite and assist the onsite management team with day to day activities.  The Representative will be expected to travel when necessary. Duties/Responsibilities: Conduct new employee orientations and ensure compliance with site drug testing program. Develop and conduct training as needed at the project including, but not limited to, fall protection, confined space, personal protective equipment, first aid/CPR, signal person and Hazard Communication. Write review and modify site specific safety policies and procedures Write and lead weekly safety meetings at the project Help ensure jobsite compliance with Federal, State and Local Regulations as well as Corporate Policies and Procedures Assist site Superintendents and foreman with implementing safe work practices in daily activities Lead incident investigation efforts & document findings and assistant in developing lessons learned to help prevent reoccurrence. Job site safety inspections (inspection of power tools, cords, hazards, etc.) PPE inspections, order and replace, administer training Purchase and Maintain equipment including full body harnesses and lanyards Respirators fit testing and familiarity with various types Assist in development of daily Job Safety Analysis (JSA's) Collect, review, correct and evaluate JSAs, provide feedback to onsite management Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Safety Science or related degree and 5+ years of safety experience in general construction industry, preferably civil infrastructure and heavy highway construction. OSHA 500 Trainer and First Aid CPR Instructor preferred. Seeking a detail-oriented, excellent communicator with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and take initiative. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), PowerPoint and other related computer software. Candidate must be willing to accept travel to the job sites.
